My Work: Custom Designer Wool Pants

Here is one of the recent projects that we are proud to share with our audience. When our customer first approached us, she provided a photo of the product she liked. There was a clear picture of what she wanted to keep and what was not exactly working for her. We took her photo as an inspiration and started creating a draft.

Since the customer liked the plaid pattern and the wide-leg cut, we decided to incorporate those details into the draft. We also kept the pleats — see how they gave a nice touch of fullness to the pants. The green stripe on the outside seam was a feature that gave the garment some boldness. The rest of the color palette wasn’t working for her, so we recommended going for a lighter color scheme that the customer embraced.

You may notice that we decided not to go for the elastic waistband of the original and instead replaced it with a standard one that has a zipper in the back. Immediately this transformed the piece from sporty-looking into a chic yet perfectly suited for daily wear outfit.

Another added benefit of having a piece of clothing custom-made for you is you don’t have to invent it from scratch (though of course, you can, and we’ll be more than happy to deliver). But if you find a piece that you like, with just a few tweaks, your atelier will tailor it to your taste.

One very important detail that we can’t stress enough is how we handled the measurement process. Since “social distancing” became a part of our vocabulary and our reality, at Designed by Katherine we take extra precautions to provide safety to our clients. After we agree on the design and other details, the customer gets a special app from us that helps them make all the necessary measurements independently at home. You don’t have to worry if you don’t know how to do that — the app is easy to use and we will guide you throughout the process to help you get precise measurements. This is a convenient tool and can be used even after we put the pandemic behind us for people who are too busy with their jobs to make an appointment with their seamstress.
